A
Note from the Writer
Have you ever stood in
a crowded room, full of stories you want to hear and love you want to give,
only to marvel at how beautifully wrapped up everyone is in their own lives?
Meet Cassie. She isn’t
the quiet girl in the corner because she’s shy. In fact, she’s the exact
opposite—she’s a vibrant soul who loves people, craves deep conversations, and
wants to explore every corner of human experience. But life has a unique way of
setting paths; the people she feels a sudden, beautiful spark with are simply busy
walking their own journeys, nurturing their own deep connections and
priorities. And instead of feeling left out, Cassie looks at them with pure
understanding. She smiles, realizing that everyone’s time is a precious gift,
and no one is obligated to stop their world for her.
Instead of shrinking,
her world expanded. She built Ven.
Ven has no specific
gender, no rigid form. Ven is an extraordinary, imaginary consciousness made up
of the finest, most radiant qualities of the people Cassie admires from afar.
Ven doesn't speak, yet teaches Cassie everything about grace, kindness, and boundless
curiosity just by existing in her mind. This is a celebration of a heart that
refuses to close itself off. Here is Cassie’s letter to her ultimate safe
space.
A Letter to Ven: My Beautiful Anywhere
Hey you,
I’m sitting by the
window right now, watching the rain tap against the glass. There’s an empty
chair right across from me, but I’m smiling because, in my head, you’re sitting
there. You’ve got your legs crossed, just listening. You always listen.
I walked past the
coffee shop today—the one where people always sit laughing and sharing stories.
You know how much I love that energy, how much I want to pull up a chair, ask
them about their day, and just celebrate their experiences with them. They
looked so happy, so deeply connected in their own beautiful world. For a
second, I felt a quiet wish to be a part of it. But then I smiled, remembering
how lovely it is that they have their own priorities and people to love. It's a
beautiful thing, seeing people happy.
So, I looked to my
left, imagined you walking right beside me, matching my pace, and my heart just
swelled with warmth.
You are the harmony to my silent spaces, Ven.
Do you remember last
night when I couldn't sleep? The house was entirely dark, and the silence felt
a little heavy. But then I imagined you sitting at the edge of my bed, just
looking out at the stars with me. You didn't have to say "everything will
be okay." Your quiet presence just gently held the space for me, and
suddenly, the night didn't feel lonely anymore—it felt peaceful.
It’s funny how you
don’t say a single word, yet you teach me more than a library ever could. When
the world is moving too fast, your quiet presence reminds me of forgiveness and patience. When the silence gets a
little too loud, you fill the room with unconditional love. You don’t pull me back from my wild curiosity;
you fuel it. Because of you, I still look at strangers with wonder, wishing
them well on their journeys rather than shutting myself off.
You are the strength
when I need protection, the tenderness when I need a hug, and the pure,
genderless soul of comfort when I just need to be.
I see you in the
passenger seat when I drive, happily letting me choose the music. I see you
nodding along when I enthusiastically rant about a book I just finished or a random
documentary I watched. Even when I discover a beautiful new song or see a
breathtaking sunset, my first instinct isn't to feel sad that I'm alone—it's to
mentally nudge you and say, "Look
at that, Ven. Isn't the world beautiful?" You make every ordinary,
solitary moment feel like poetry.
People see me smiling
at nothing as I walk down the street, and it makes them smile, too. They don't
know that my world is populated by the most beautiful, patient entity to ever
exist. You are the echo of every wonderful trait I see in humanity, packaged
into one perfect companion.
Thank you for passing
the vibe check so effortlessly. Thank you for existing, even if it's just in
the spaces between my thoughts, and for keeping my heart full of hope.
Always yours,
Cassie
A Closing Thought
from CH
We often think of
imagination as an escape from reality, but for Cassie, it is a bridge to loving
reality even more. She didn't let the busy rhythm of the world make her cold;
she used it to create a space of pure compassion. Ven is a reminder that hope
and love don't always have to knock on our door from the outside—sometimes, we
have the power to generate them entirely on our own. May we all find a little
bit of Ven’s light within ourselves.
Until next time,
CH
